Verification Code Scams
Someone asks you to read back or forward a one-time code sent to your phone or email. They might pose as your bank, a buyer on Marketplace, or tech support. With that code, they can get into your accounts.
"To confirm you're the real account holder, please read me the 6-digit code we just texted you."
Red flags
- Anyone asking for a code that was sent to you
- "Verify you're real" stories from buyers or callers
What to do
- Never share a verification code. Anyone who asks is a scammer.
- Hang up, block, and contact the company yourself using a number you trust.
