QR Code Scams
A QR code on a parking meter, flyer, email, or text takes you to a fake site that steals your login or payment info, or installs malware. Scammers have been reported pasting their own codes over real ones.
"We noticed suspicious activity on your account. Scan the QR code below to verify your identity and avoid suspension."
Red flags
- A QR code in an unexpected email or text
- A sticker placed over the original code
- Urgency to scan and sign in now
What to do
- Don't scan codes from unexpected emails or texts.
- Before opening, check the web address the code shows. Look for misspellings.
- Pay parking and bills through the official app or website instead.
